Circus Massenzio

Gardenvisit Editorial

This is the best preserved stadium (circus) in Rome. In Ancient Greece, stadia were built in conjunction with sanctuaries. In Rome they became secularised, as places to 'cultivate' the body and enjoy the spectacle of racing. Small stadia, like Pliny the Younger's hippodrome, became a feature of noble gardens. Emperors provided stadia for the public.
Address - Circo di Massenzio, Rome, Lazio, Italy
