Castle Hill Garden

Gardenvisit Editorial

The plumbing magnate (founder of Crane Company) established a summer estate here in 1924. An Italianate villa was replaced with with an English style mansion house. He employed the Olmsted firm to design the landscape (and an Italian Garden) and Arthur Shurcliff to design a rose garden and an undulating formal avenue to the sea. The avenue and the Olmsted landscape survive in good condition.
