John Anthony (1979), The Gardens of Britain records Van der Meulen arriving in the spring of 1685 'By a Kettering coach on Saturday will come down a new gardener, you must appoint him a Chamber....'. Van der Meulen, a Dutchman, had previous experience of drainage works in the Fens.

I agree this is a truly amazing "parkland" an interesting mix of very modern design along with the ongoing restoration work.

It is exciting to see some tremendous restoration work being applied to this awesome place. It is being done well.

The new 'Orpheus' creation is imaginative and effective..it works .and is a good balance to the mound near by.

I was increasingly impressed with the place as one viewed all that is being done. Full marks Duke of Buccleuch for investing in such fantastic works!
