Repton produced one of his best Red Books for this place. He described the project as an 'Application of Gardening and Architecture united, in the formation of a new place'. One can see it as a precursor of the Jekyll-Lutyens approach. The scheme was not implemented, except for a lake more or less as he proposed it. The Abbey ruins are managed by English Heritage and can be visited.
