Banpo is of interest to garden historians but not to the general run of garden visitors. The museum buildings enclose the best-known example of a Neolithic Village in China. You can see the foundations of square and circular huts. They were half set into the ground and roofed with straw. Very obviously, the only gardens their residents can have had would have been places to grow horticultural crops. They cannot have had pleasure gardens as they were later known to China's imperial and scholar aristocracy.
