The Arcadians were a group, founded in 1690, which planned to hold Cultural Olympics. They obtained land for an Academy on the Janiculum in Rome in 1725, as a gift from the King of Portugal. The site was designed as a garden with a bosco, fountains, a theatre and a double Baroque staircase.
