Rice straw rope and matting protection

Previous - Next

When a tree is weakened by the transplantation or otherwise, it should be protected against cold or heat. In that case, it is generally wrapped with rice straw matting and tied tightly over with rope of the same material. Should certain germs in the bark need to be suffocated, as is often the case with our pines, the tree should be coated over with mud, first preparing it by winding straw rope around it so as to give hold to the mud. All sorts of other tender attentions are paid to the trees, different means being devised for varying requirements, prompted by the love of Nature so long cultivated in our people.
