Bark-bed thermometer

1936. Bregazzi's bark-bed thermometer (fig. 525.) has the bulb enclosed in a painted glass tube, by inserting which in the bark bed, or in earth or water, the temperature will be indicated according to the depth of the insertion. The visible part of the glass tube is protected by a small door (a) near the upper end of the instrument. (Ibid.)
