1761. The garden hammer consists of a head, with a flat face and forked claw, and is generally lighter than the carpenter's hammer. It is used chiefly by gardeners for driving in or drawing out the nails in dressing wall trees. An improved form (fig. 409.) has a stud protruding from the head, in the direction of the handle, to serve as a fulcrum in drawing nails from walls.
