Historically, garden design in South East Asia was connected with its royal families and styles were often derived from elsewhere - originally from China and later from Europe. But the regions tropical climate is very favourable to plant growth and with the region's ever-rising prosperity a new approach to tropical gardening can be expected to develop. The agricultural sector remains strong but many small farms near urban areas and beaches are becoming residential properties.
Asia's property market, like its economies, is developing rapidly. Cheap air travel has made it possible for travellers (e.g. from Europe and America) to have Asian holiday homes.
