Hawaii holiday homes

Return to property home

Hawaii joined the US as the 50th state in 1959. The yellow hibiscus is the official state flower.

Hawaii has 8 large islands and numerous smaller islands. It is relatively more expensive than mainland USA both for hotels and for property to buy. This is partly because everything has to be transported and partly because the high quality of the landscape has made it a very popular holiday destination. The peak season is from November to March when the surf is at its best. The islands are also popular for family holidays in summer. They have a tropical climate with much local variation. Hawaii has a rich native flora, well suited to making tropical gardens. It also has good public gardens:

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden

Lili'uokalani Botanical Garden (Honolulu Botanical Gardens)

Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden

Senator Fong's Plantation and Garden

Kauai

With its lush tropical landscape, Kauai is known as the Garden Isle. The Limahuli Garden on the north shore of Kauai is one of the top botanical gardens in the United States.
