Riverside Greenwich

Navigation on the River Thames is controlled by the Port of London Authority. This is not an urban design agency.

The Thames frontage of the World Heritage site is very splendid and it is to be hoped that this high quality will extend to the east and to the west.

East The riverfront by Greenwich Power station is a major site for future development. The small power station is nearing the end of its life and, noting how Bankside Power Station became the Tate Modern.

West of the World Heritage Site. The Cutty Sark section of the riverfront was re-developed in 1999 and received a Civic Trust Award. Its quality is good but not outstanding. The next section to the east is likely to change when the Cruise Liner terminal on Deptford Creek is developed.

The riverfront between the World Heritage site and Deptford Creek is pleasantly vernacular, and in danger of 'modernisation', like the mouth of the Creek which can be seen in the top right corner of the photograph.
