A country park 169 ha. in extent designed by Humphrey Repton, converted by the GLC from part of an existing estate and opened to the public in 1973. The house is now a separate educational establishment but was previously a country seat with grounds landscaped in the English manner. Features remaining include an impressive lime avenue, an obelisk and ornamental lakes. The estate, having originally formed part of the royal hunting forest of Enfield Chase, now lies at the inner edge of the Green Belt at the point of transition between town and country. A successful low-key adaptation for public access has been achieved with car parks sunk in the woodland. Entrances off Cockfosters Road, Bramley Road and the Ridgeway, London N14.
