London's canals are continuing to develop as a recreational amenity. The initiative came from the Greater London Council and is being carried forward by British Waterways. The most attractive sections to visit lie alongside Mile End Park, Victoria Park, Kings Cross, Camden Lock, Regents Park, Little Venice and Kensal Green Cemetery.
In many ways they are better suited to the needs of the 21st century than traditional parks: people love to be beside water and the popularity of running and walking continues to increase. See comment on London Greenway Walks.
Access from Regent's Park, Mile End Park or many inbetween points.
