Green roofs and gardens in the Thames Policy Area.

The case for all new roofs being green is particularly strong in the Thames Policy Area. The opportunity exists because the land has such a high value - and a value which would be enhanced by being part of an extensive roof garden zone (as suggested in the below video'London becomes a Roof Garden City with green living roofs'. As well as benefitting residents and occupiers, the green roof zone will generate public goods:

  • it can help make a New Thames Valley with a rich canopy of vegetation
  • it can supply the customary green roof benefits: sustainable water management, energy conservation, wild life habitats, dust removal, noise dampening
