Landscape Architecture Debate

Landscape architecture is one of the world's 'most important professions' (for the reasons explained elsewhere). It is important because the landscape profession helps give the world valuable public goods: attractive places to build homes, good cities and fine countryside. But these are not easy tasks and there is a great need for debate: within the landscape profession, with the other design professions and with the general public. At a conceptual level, this requires as much clarity as possible about:

  • the history of landscape architecture
  • the theory of landscape architecture
  • design and planning methodology
  • criteria for distinguishing  'good' and 'bad' landscape designs.
