Green space is all very well. It is soft, relaxing and favoured by those who are charged with keeping municipal order. But green is not the only colour. Other hues, other emotions and other possibilities can be envisaged and then planned. Imagination and organization are the only requisites. By turns, we feel solitary, gregarious, adventurous, amorous, aggressive, bored and excited. These, and all the other moods, some of which can be symbolized by colours, deserve accommodation in the public realm of a town. So we need harlequin plans for harlequin space, to suit our harlequin lives (Figure 16.1).
