The old route no longer exists but the present roadway is not far from the ancient alignment. The ugly building in the middle ground is a school. TheTemple of Karnak can be glimpsed behind the two white cruise boats on the East Bank. This land should be protected from building development and the old processional route should be re-created. This could be done as a canal with a chain drive so that tourists were brought to the sites in supreme silence.
