The Garden Guide

Sunset Gardens

Sunset Magazine was founded by the Southern Pacific Railroad (in 1898) to promote the California lifestyle and the magazine commissioned Thomas Church to make a demonstration garden around its headquarters in Menlo Park. The garden has the character of a suburban garden in the Abstract Style. A long serpentine border, fringing a lawn, has sections representing the flora in different parts of California.
