Trowels, Dibbers and Bulb Planters

The choice of an appropriate planting tool obviously depends on what is being planted:

• a general spade for trees and shrubs
• a border spade for herbaceous plants
• a trowel for smaller plants
• a bulb dibber or bulb planter for bulbs
• a seed dibber for seeds

Sowing seeds with the right tool should render thinning almost unnecessary when the seedlings start to grow.
