Garden stores are essential to garden designers, but to make a good garden one must go direct to building products stores and online plant suppliers. The problems with general garden stores are:

• too much concrete (blocks, slabs, ornaments)
• too much plastic (chairs, tables, pools)
• too much color stained softwood
• poor quality bricks
• poor varieties of common plants

It is indeed almost impossible to design a good garden using only the products available from your local garden store.
