Carpet bedding planting design

Carpet bedding develoed in the nineteenth century as a type of annual bedding. The idea, deriving from knot gardens and parterres, was to create carpet-like patterns. At the end of the nineteenth century 'carpet bedding' became a term of abuse for annual displays of plants, but it remains popular in show gardens and public park.
