Gina Gordon at Gardens by Gordon Design

The Old Manor, Milton Road, Pewsey Wiltshire SN9 5JJ

A well-designed garden, providing pleasure for years to come, is not a product where one size fits all. It is the result of collaboration with a client and a creative process that responds to a particular location and set of requirements. The designer’s job is to take all of the elements into consideration and produce a unique design solution.

Gina Gordon did her training at the John Brookes School of Garden Design. Since finishing in 2005, she has undertaken commissions for gardens both in the country and in a city setting. Whatever the context, she recognises that strong design must underpin each garden if it is to endure. Harmony of form and proportion is carefully detailed and issues such as sustainability and long-term maintenance are taken into account. Planting schemes mix lush forms and colour with evergreen ‘bone structure’ and can run the gamut from the traditional through to the thoroughly contemporary.

The design process is one of stages and the extent to which Gina’s skills will be involved is decided in consultation with her clients. After the initial visit, for which no fee is charged, any or all of the following stages can be commissioned:

- Initial Consultation – A first visit to the site where thorough note is taken of the client’s views and wishes, alongside a general inspection of the garden area and its setting.

- Written Summary – A letter is sent summarising the brief and including an initial analysis of how its details might be addressed and a general outline of the probable time involved.

- Outline Plan – Following an accurate survey of the site, a scale drawing of the design plan is prepared. Detailed drawings of features in the plan (e.g. ponds, pergolas, stone work etc.) form part of this phase.

- Planting – In this separate scale plan, the location of all the plants is shown, accompanied by a list of all of them and the numbers required.

- Project Administration - Liaison with a contractor to facilitate implementation of the plan(s).

- Planting – Sourcing plants for planting either through Gordon Design or by the client.

- Maintenance – A written schedule for all the plants.
