Karlsruhe Schlossgarten

The city of Karlsruhe was founded in 1715 when Carl Wilhelm began to make his retreat. The town grew around the house and became a 'fan town'. With the amazing concentric design of the garden determining the circular design of the town. It had 32 avenues radiating from the central tower. Today, the plan is more apparent from a map than from the ground. A Bundesgartenschau (garden show) was held here 1967. A botanic garden adjoins the Schlossgarten.
