Garden obelisks, columns and pyramids

Monumental objects, as obelisks, columns, pyramids, may occasionally be introduced with great effect, both in a picturesque and historical view, of which Blenheim, Castle Howard, &c., afford fine examples; but their introduction is easily carried to the extreme, and then it defeats itself, as it did at Stowe.
