Governments everywhere want to get rid of it and them – and the nomads help them by behaving in ways which settled peoples regard as irresponsible. So the big problem for N55’s great idea would be finding lands on which it could work. Bruce Chatwin wanted to write a full study of nomadism and might have done it if he had not, by his own account, picked up a fatal fungus from eating an ancient black egg in Linjiang, China (doctors think he had Aids).
