A newtork of long-distance walkways for London was promoted by the London Walking Forum. It was a development of Abercrombie's 1943-4 Open Space plan. The network uses existing and proposes a wide-ranging network of orbital and radial routes. This proposal, and the routeways, was first proposed in Tom Turner's 1991-2 report, Towards a Green Strategy for London (London Planning Advisory Committee, 1992). The network map was kept up to date by the London Walking Forum until it was absorbed into Transport for London.
