River landscape restoration at St Mary's Cray

The River Cray, in St Mary's Cray, was encased in concrete culverts and concrete channels (top photo). It was rescued from its imprisonment by Jeremy Purseglove, landscape architect and author of Taming the Flood (1988). The planting is ecological and the detailing (in local flint and brick) is contextual. It is an excellent scheme.
