The voice in this book is that of Jane Loudon’s Life of her husband: John Claudius Loudon. She wrote 15,000 words. My book is an 8-fold expansion with the supposition that their daughter, Agnes Loudon, having become interested in her father and his family after his death, persuaded her mother to tell her much more about her father, his travels and his family (including the Somers and Buchanans).
