This great book was first published in German in 1913. It was then re-published in English, with the addition of chapters on 'modern' English and American gardens, in 1928. The web edition was edited by Tom Turner, with explanatory notes and hyperlinks to garden descriptions and biographies. In Tom Turner's opinion, it is the best book on garden history, combining scholarship with excellent design judgement.
