It is said that 'history began at Sumer' (S. N. Kramer), in the sense that the recording of history began at Sumer (in the modern state of Iraq). Sumer is one of the possible locations for the Garden of Eden and one of the world's oldest cities, Uruk. Sumer is therefore as good a candidate as any for the starting point on a Timeline of World Garden History.
