Filtration systems prevent damage to pumps and fountain nozzles. Necessary for medium and large fountains, they can also be used for smaller systems. The components of a filtration system are:

  • a suction pipe
  • a discaharge pipe
  • a pump
  • a filter system (eg a cardridge or a sand filter, as used for swimming pools)
  • a surface skimmer

If the pool is not ecologically balanced then it may be necessary to use sterilization chemicals to prevent the growth of green algae - which has an amazing propensity to block fountain jets.

  • An inline submersible filter (above) and an external biological filter (below). The submersible filter needs to be opened and cleaned regularly. The external filter needs to be located above water level and only needs occasional cleaning.
