Nelumbo nucifera the Sacred Lotus

 The Sacred Lotus is native to a large area between Afghanistan and the Pacific. It was cultivated by the Persians and reached Egypt by this means. In Hinduism it is a symbol of divine beauty and in Buddhism it symbolizes the way in which purity can emerge from the muddy waters everyday life.
