The Garden of Pleasure (I, or Yi, Yuan)

Gardenvisit Editorial

A small scholar garden from the Ch'ing Dynasty, made in the nineteenth century and thus one of the most recent Suzhou gardens, drawing on the older gardens. It has a two-sided roofed gallery (lang) and a lotus pond. A poem by a famous calligrapher reads 'A world of bamboos brimming over with moonlight, Pines sing together with the soothing wind.'. The garden is varied, intricate and delightful.
