Schloss Weesenstein, Müglitztal

Gardenvisit Editorial

The garden surrounds extensive castle buildings in which King Johann von Sachsen worked on his Dante translation during the 19th century. Towered over by the Schloss,  the park has retained its baroque outline which makes for a striking contrast to the dense woods and rocks that surround its secluded position in the Müglitz valley. The garden is complete with fountains, avenues, sculpture and a tea house. During the flood of 2002 it was completey destroyed, but huge efforts have been undertaken to restore the park to its former glory.
