The Old Rectory was built by The Reverend William Duthy in 1820. The gardens have been developed by Ann and Tony Huntington since 1983.
We invite you to come and see one of the top 10 gardens newly recommended by Gardens Illustrated. The Old Rectory Gardens, Sudborough has a wonderful location in the middle of the pretty stone and thatch village next to All Saints Church. Behind the high stone Rectory Wall lies a most ‘English’ example of a country house garden complete with copious bulbs and Hellebores in spring, then Peonies, Wisteria, Agapanthus and well stocked herbaceous borders as the season progresses. David Austin fragrant roses fill the ornamental rose garden from where the sweeping lawns lead to a large pond by Harper’s Brook. Beyond this point you can cross over a rustic bridge and enjoy a shady woodland walk. One of the visitor highlights of the gardens is the ornamental Poptager designed by Rosemary Verey. An exercise in the successful blending of fruit, flowers and vegetables, the Potager is a delight to experience from Spring to Autumn. At the end of your visit this feast for the senses can be rounded off with that most English of traditions, refreshments served on the lawn.. This is a gem of of place not to be missed.
