Lamb House

This was Henry James' house and garden from1898-1916. The great novelist was also a keen gardener and garden visitor. His own garden has high walls and was once designed by the brilliant Arts and Crafts illustrator Alfred Parsons. Later E. F. Benson (a novelist and archaeologist) and Rumer Godden (also an author) lived here. The garden has compartments, beds, borders, a rose garden and planting which has been undertaken since it was given to the National Trust in 1950.
