The Lal Bagh in Indore, one of the best neoclassical palaces in India. It was designed by it was designed by Triggs of Calcutta and built between 1886 and 1921 and is surrounded by a vast formal garden. The entrance gates are replicas of the gates to Buckingham Palace in London. The Indian art historian KK Chakravarty wrote that the palace is: 'A blend of Italian villa, French Chateau, traditional motifs and modern conveniences, the Lal Bagh Palace is indeed a statement of riotous Victorian eclecticism not surprising, perhaps, for a ruler who supported the British.'
