The garden was laid out by Hyder Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan, during the eighteenth century and now has a large collection of tropical plants. There is a glass house which was inspired by the Crystal Palace in London.

Collection of plants are supposedly extensive but u have to get past the extremely poor plant maintenance. The rose garden is hidden among waist high weeds, the bonsai section has only empty pedestals, etc. Plant displays/grouping are sadly worse than local private gardens... Best time to go is specifically for the flower festivals which are held at the glass house. Pitiful state for a once glorious garden
