Exhibition "Leonardo da Vinci and France" until 28 february 2011 A fascinating ten-year relationship between three kings of France and Leonardo da Vinci We thought we knew all there was to know about Leonardo da Vinci. We knew he was an artist, architect, engineer and more. In the exhibition Leonardo da Vinci and France, we discover that he was an organiser of festivities and director of plays. The many Deluge drawings he completed at Le Clos Lucé show his obsession with a world submerged by water… Research by top specialists has revealed the extent of the work carried out by the Master, whose time at Le Clos Lucé buzzed with activity despite his advanced years. In his adopted home, a place where anything was possible, da Vinci at last gave his imagination free rein in grandiose projects conceived for Francis I: the palace and model city of Romorantin, the draining of the Sologne marshes, the amazing double-helix staircase at Chambord, and more… all challenges astonishingly modern in nature. Festival of Clos Lucé 12,13,14 august 2010 European Renaissance Festival 24,25,26 september 2010 What music did Francis I listen to? Humanist, culturally diverse, courtly, the music of the Renaissance took on the characteristics of the era in which it appeared and developed. The aim of the European Festival of Renaissance Music, taking place in Amboise on the last weekend in September, is to bring out this forgotten side of our heritage. The big names of Renaissance music such as Jordi Savall, the William Byrd ensemble and Doulce Mémoire appear every year on the stage at Le Clos Lucé in three days of superb continuous musical performances. An opportunity to listen to the sound of some unusual instruments: the lyre, harp, sackbut and voila de gamba transport us irresistibly to the heart of a repertoire every bit as worthy as medieval music or baroque music, especially since Leonardo da Vinci was himself a musician… In September 24th : Entheos, « cabaret Renaissance » Imagine yourselves around a table, in an inn, a man tells you his love for a woman who has just left him and the sorrow which embrace him. There’s no other solution except to feast to console the man. It is in a real cabaret Renaissance which we invite you. You will taste with us these musics, texts and surprises. Artistic direction : Benoît Damant In September 25th : Christophe Desjardins, Cécile Grenier, Catherine Demonchy, altos Polyphonies of the Renaissance and current : a fancy of violist Artistic direction : Christophe Desjardins In September 26th : Il Ballo, « La grâce selon Mantoue » Played plays the court of Mantoue frequented by Léonard de Vinci Artistic direction : Leonardo Loredo de Sà
