The botanic garden of Ecuador's largest city is situated on a hill overlooking the Guayas and Daule rivers. Development of the garden began in 1979 and it opened to the public in 1989. There is a particular emphasis on the plants of Ecuador's tropical coastal zone.

I enjoyed this garden in January 2007 en route to the Galpagos Islands. The warm and balmy climate hosted numerous species in a relaxed setting. Well worth a visit when in Ecuador.
