Hardy Croom moved to Goodwood, then a plantation, in the 1830s. He had a great interest in horticulture and during his travels collected many plants. Mrs Fanny Tiers purchased Goodwood in 1911. She used the property to entertain guests and consequently added new features for this purpose and renovated the garden in the Colonial Revival style.
