Freedom Park

Gardenvisit Editorial

Located on a hill opposite the Voortrekker Monument, Freedom Park is a commemorative heritage project for South Africa's struggle for freedom and democracy. The 52 hectare site is on Salvokop Hill - high ground on a rock is symbolic of Africa. The Park is due for completion in 2009 but the Isivivane Garden of Remembrance is already open. It is an 2.5 hectare indigenous garden with sculptures and monuments to honour those who have positively contributed to South Africa's development.
