Thomas Alva Edison's winter home and garden are beside the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers. It is a vernacular house, known as 'Seminole lodge' to the Edisons. Edison's friend Henry Ford purchased the neighboring property in 1915 - 'The Mangoes'. Edison, one of the world's greatest inventors, treated the garden as a botanical laboratory and bred an extra-vigorous Golden Rod. His wife made water features in the garden.

This makes a lovely day out - the house and garden overlook the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers. Spectacular specimen trees, including the largest banyan in the US. The palm trees are magnificent. Designated a Florida Historic Landmark and deservedly so, you'll enjoy your visit here.
