Gardenvisit Editorial

The pools, leats and other watercourses round an old mill have been made into a delightful garden. It verges into woodland and is only 1500 yards from a beach. Docton Mill has a bog garden, vegetable garden and 140m herbaceous border.  Particularly worth a visit in the spring when the narcissi are in bloom.
Address - Lymebridge, Hartland, Devon, England, EX39 6EA
Opening times - March to October. Daily. Open 10am to 6pm.

If you are tempted to visit these gardens do think carefully before wasting your money. The gardens may have been award winning some years ago but now are run by a sort of Basil Fawlty type chap who would benefit from attending a course in customer service and manners. He would giive one foot in the grave a run for their money. The gardens are okay, ish, and the tea rooms are run okay. Go to Rosemoor instead.

This garden is absolutely glorious ... a little bit of heaven in Devon! As you approach from the main road, you get wonderful views of Lundy Island out in the Bristol channel.
Arrive at Docton and you'll be amazed. Nine acres of water and wonders. Well worth going out of your way to see (and the food is wonderful too).
The present owners, who've been here 10 years, are turning this into a really exceptional garden.
