Gardenvisit Editorial

The chateau is set high above the town, in a very dominating position. There is no garden on the town side, but a covered bridge from the main chateau crosses a ravine and leads directly to the garden. One main axis leads to a water feature, possibly a very simplified copy of the Latona fountain in Versailles. The hornbeam allées are well kept, but are out of scale with the 19th century (?) tree planting. The formality of theparterre planting contrasts oddly with the views out of the garden, onto a thickly wooded hillside.

This is not a very distinguished design – unfortunately, a rather unfavourable comparison with the Palazzo Farnese, Caprarola, which has a similar town/chateau/ garden relationship – presents itself.
