The gardens surround the ruins of an old corn mill. There is a water garden, winter garden, rose garden, alpine bed and vegetable patch.

Head Gardener's Comment

Cascades Gardens is a fascinating garden to visit in Derbyshire. Set on many levels with a new garden room around every corner - formal perennial beds, water gardens, a winter garden and vegetable patch. There are also spectacular views from the cliff top paths and the chance to buy choice and unusual plants in the nursery.

History

In 1996 when we arrived at Cascades there were very few plants or shrubs and the garden was dark with 30ft high holly trees along the southern border. Most of the land was covered with 6ft high Hogweed, Ancient Elderberry trees, Brambles and Stinging Nettles. The pond was completely full of silt and choked with weed.

The garden surrounds the ruins of an old corn mill and features the remains of an old lead mine.

Plants of Note

The spectacular open gardens features a wide variety of plants, including a fantastic selection of hellebores and herbaceous perennials providing interest throughout the year.

I recently visited Cascades and was amazed by what we found. We had seen a clip of the garden on the BBC news and thought that we should go and have a look for ourselves.

The garden is set on many different levels and each of these little sections have been individually designed to flow into each other.

The garden has a fantastic selection of different plants and will offer something for eveyone!
