Britzer Garten

The park was built for the BUGA horticultural show in 1985. There is a rose garden, herb garden, witch garden, medieval castle, and a large lake with an island ("Liebesinsel” meaning "Love Island").

Head Gardener's Comment

The Britzer Garden, with a size of 90 acres, has a wide variety of offers such as garden art, gastronomy, concerts, events, sport and health offers, animals and a real museum train. Most important, however, are the very well maintained garden grounds as well as the pure nature. This is why the Britzer Garden was elected amongst the 10 most beautiful gardens in the whole of Germany in 2002.
The modern landscape garden groups itself into a quiet, broad lake landscape with a size of 10 acres embedded in a hilly landscape. Up to 19 metre high hills located near the lakes allow you to enjoy beautiful views across the park landscape and it is also an excellent opportunity for people to recover and play. Springs can be found on two of the hills with little streams trickling down as well as water falls. Grassland with some little shrubs allow these hills to be used for a variety of activities. The buildings as well as bridges offer a special charm as they were designed for spatial situations. The café on the side of the lake emerges from a hill. It is integrated into the surrounding landscape. Several paths come together at a nearby bridge. One can enjoy a beautiful view in several directions. It can be compared with a bundle of roots.
One would never believe that it was once planned by garden architects and designed by landscape gardeners. They have developed into a habitat for animal species in order to breed.
