The garden of a well-known nurseryman and gardening author. Alan Bloom has bred many fine herbaceous plants and likes to display them in rubber-band shaped 'island beds'. There is a plant centre and the garden adjoins a steam museum with a narrow-guage railway.

    In terms of a show place for perennials this garden does an excellent job. During an August visit it was a riot of colour and generally speaking very agreable.

    Its slight drawback is the multiplicity of these island beds such that one goes back and forth so as not to miss anything, and therefore looses any sense of direction or flow around the place.

    Maintenance is exemplary as is the quality of plants, particularly if you like perennials.
