Aulnaies Manor Garden

Gardenvisit Editorial

France governed Canada after 1623 using a seigniorial system. Land was granted to landlords (seigneurs) who paid taxes to the King of France. The Seigneurie des Aulnaies is an example of a seigniorial estate. It is east of Quebec City, in Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies. The Manor House, designed by Charles Baillairgé (1826–1906), survives with a historic rose garden.
